Kay Tutoring - Standard of Excellence, Nothing Less
Andrea's tutoring career dates back to 1999.  In addition to academic tutoring and test prep tutoring, Andrea is a former admissions interviewer for Yale University; she is skilled at helping college applicants prep for interviews and write stand-out admissions essays.  Andrea graduated from Yale with a B.A. in history.  She also played NCAA Division I  Varsity Basketball at Yale.

Families tell me that one or two hours a week working with me replace
many useless hours spent on unfocused self-study.

Message from Andrea:
Why choose me?  Because I teach children holistically. What does this mean?  Your child is a student, but they are also a person full of possibility and talent who needs to be treated as such. When I tutor your child, I get to know them as a person and connect with them.  Every student is fascinating to me.  I also care—a lot—and I’m not saying other tutors don’t, but at most major tutoring organizations, parents choose an organization and are subsequently assigned a tutor whose job is almost always NOT a full-time tutor.  They're ability to survive does not depend on tutoring, so there is less of an urgency to deliver the best quality, which includes making tutoring fun!   When teachers teach well, students enjoy it. If your student is not enjoying the help they are getting, there's something wrong!

Good teaching is a dialogue process. It involves listening as much as talking. I tailor every tutoring session. That means, throughout a day, I might be highly energetic with one student who simply adores school and cannot wait for me to push him or her harder, patient and gentle with another student who has just started tutoring because of a poor grades or a disappointing test score (the worst, but also the most room for progress in lower than hoped for test scores), and I might finish up with a star basketball player -who will be able to choose any school in the country he wants to go to-so I have to motivate him using other techniques.  I love a “challenge,” because to me there are no “challenging kids.”  Everyone’s different!  And thank goodness or all the great Universities would be made up of some pretty homogenous people.

I welcome the opportunity to provide you with the service and the results that you deserve.
Andrea Kay
