Kathleen
Hello, my name is Kathleen, and I am excited to work with you! I’m originally from the greater Boston area, though my academic and professional path has since taken me to many places. I attended Smith College in Northampton, MA, where I double-majored in English and History and graduated with honors. From there, I moved to the U.K., where I achieved a master’s degree in British and European History from the University of Oxford. After working in the museum education field in Washington, D.C., for a few years, I made St. Paul my home in 2021. My insatiable drive for learning compelled me to pursue a master’s in English at the University of St. Thomas, graduating in 2025. Currently, I am an English Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota, where I teach first-year composition and creative nonfiction.
I enjoy helping students discover their intellectual passions and build confidence in their writerly voice. My favorite part of tutoring is guiding students to recognize abilities and interests they may not yet fully see in themselves. In one-on-one settings, I help students find structure, sharpen their focus, and translate ambitious ideas into clear, compelling writing. As both a scholar and educator, I specialize in breaking down complex concepts for broad audiences without sacrificing nuance or originality. At Kay Tutoring, I focus primarily on college essays and supplemental applications, while my extensive background in English and history also equips me to support students preparing for AP exams.
When I am not tutoring or studying in the library, I enjoy biking around the Twin Cities, thrifting vintage clothing, and participating in hyper-local food justice programs in my community.
