Elena
Hi, I’m Elena, and I look forward to meeting you!
Though I’ve lived in Kampala, Uganda, Bolivia, and Texas, I completed high school at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut under a full scholarship, where I graduated from their IB Diploma Program with honors. I moved to Minnesota to attend Carleton College, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Creative Writing—I love the humanities as much as I love STEM.
While at Carleton, I served as a teaching assistant and tutor for Calculus I and II, graded for Linear Algebra, and organized events to build community within the Math and Statistics department. I also won the Stephen P. Galovich Prize in Mathematics my senior year. While interning at the National Museum of Mathematics, I coordinated summer math programs for a variety of age groups. Over the years, I have tutored a number of high school math courses, from Algebra I to AP Calculus.
Problem-solving is a key component of understanding math, and I love working with students to strengthen that skill and grow their confidence with challenging concepts. Through my teaching assistant roles, as well as small-group and one-on-one tutoring, I’ve learned how to meet students where they are at—whether they’re high achievers looking to be challenged or students who feel like “math isn’t for them.” Because of that, I love supporting students at all levels, and tutoring allows me to combine my interests in mathematics, communication, and learning.
At Kay Tutoring, I tutor all levels of high school and college-level math, regular high school physics, and regular high school biology.
Outside of academics, I love creative writing, spending time with my family, and exploring Minneapolis as a runner—I recently completed my second half-marathon….while dressed as a can of sardines! I also love reading, camping, hiking, and drawing. I can’t wait to get to know you and support your learning!
