Nick
Hi, my name is Nick! I was born and raised in Minnesota, and completed my undergraduate education at Bemidji State University. After receiving my degree, I joined the United States Military. Following my service, I continued my education at the University of Minnesota, Mankato, where I earned my elementary teaching licensure. Later, I received a master’s degree in educational leadership (M.Ed.) from St. Mary’s University, Minnesota. I’m also licensed in 5th-8th grade social studies teaching and have a passion for working with adolescents on executive functioning skills, which are essential to student success. I’ve worked with all levels of elementary and middle school students and have been at Rogers Elementary STEM Magnet School for the past decade. Before that, I began my teaching career at Elk River Public Schools in 2010.
My passion and interest in teaching are rooted in my childhood, where many teachers and educators contributed significantly to my successes entering adulthood. I believe in establishing a relationship with students and families first, which allows us to establish an environment that is safe, enjoyable, and transparent. I want you to know what your child is doing, how they are progressing, and provide you with an opportunity to be part of their learning process. I encourage children to communicate their needs and interests throughout each session. This builds trust and allows me to provide activities that your child is interested in. Ultimately, my goal is to make learning fun so students invest in it throughout their lives!
For Kay Tutoring, I support students in the elementary grades with an emphasis on Reading and Math development. My approach centers on mastering the skills required for success on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment through engagement, interaction, game play, and skill-building activities. I also offer services in Executive Functioning for middle and high school students, with whom I work to improve their skills in coursework planning, organization, study skills, and whatever other tools they need to succeed.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I’ve lived in Rogers, MN, with my wife and our four children for the past 13 years. All of my children are involved in competitive sports: primarily dance and lacrosse. When I am not shuttling them around the Metro area (and sometimes beyond), I can be found playing my guitar or investing time in DIY projects around our house. I enjoy all types of music but have a particular interest in finger-style guitar. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
